After Evil Season 4, This Spinoff Idea Is The Best Way To Continue The Story This article is part of a directory: What We Do In The Shadows Season 6: Release Date, Cast, Story & Everything We Know What We Do In The Shadows Season 6 Images Reveal First Look At Returning Cast For Final Hurrah What We Do In The Shadows Season 6 Will Have A Major Laszlo & Nadja First Summary The Guide character in W hat We Do in the Shadows will find a new best friend in season 6, played by Mike O'Brien. This will mark the first time that Kristen Schaal's The Guide will have a real friend. Season 6 aims to stay comedically fresh by introducing new characters like Jerry and exploring new dynamics.
The What We Do in the Shadows stars reveal a new development for The Guide during an interview at San Diego Comic-Con. The Guide is a recurring character in the series who is played by Kristen Schaal. Throughout What We Do in the Shadows, The Guide assists the Vampiric Council and gradually becomes a greater part of the series. What We Do in the Shadows returns for its sixth and final season this fall, on October 21.
In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant at Comic-Con, What We Do in the Shadows' Schaal and showrunner Paul Simms speak about The Guide's season 6 arc. Schaal spoke about The Guide character, noting that she's "coming back to the same crew that doesn't want her over and over." To address this element of The Guide's character, Simms noted that season 6 will see The Guide "find[] a new best friend." Schaal confirmed this statement, saying that "it was fun" to get this friend, who is played by Mike O'Brien. Check out the full quotes from Schaal and Simms below:
Kristen Schaal: [I like] the fact that she just doesn't learn. She's just coming back to the same crew that doesn't want her over and over. It's such a clown thing to do; just totally missing the cues. I love that.
The Guide still never really found a best friend, but I'm sure she will. She's okay, though. I mean, don't worry about her! She's not gonna be suicidal about it.
Paul Simms: At the beginning of this new season, she finds a new best friend and someone to follow and help.
Kristen Schaal: Yeah, she does. That's right, thank you. Played [by] Mike O'Brien. It was fun.
How What We Do In The Shadows Season 6 Is Changing Character Dynamics WWDITS Is Staying Fresh In The Final Season
O'Brien is a comedic actor known for his appearances in movies and TV shows such as Saturday Night Live, Booksmart, and I Think You Should Leave. In addition to acting, he also has several writing credits, making him an especially good addition to What We Do in the Shadows season 6. Schaal's quote did not reveal much about O'Brien's character nor his tenure on the show, but SDCC's look at the season 1 premiere revealed him to be Jerry the Vampire, a former roommate of the main quartet who they realize they have forgotten to wake up from a 1976 slumber.
Unaware of The Guide's lack of popularity within the Laszlo, Nadja, Colin, and Nandor crew, it makes sense that The Guide can cling onto Jerry as a new person to bond with. As What We Do in the Shadows enters season 6, introducing Jerry is not the only change that the show is making. In Screen Rant's SDCC interview with the team, Simms confirmed that the final season would feature the first real argument between Nadja and Laszlo. As in the case of The Guide's friend, this will change the dynamic for the vampires of Staten Island.
These changes to What We Do in the Shadows season 6 are promising signs that the final season will work to stay comedically fresh, even during its final episodes. Some of the best parts of season 5 came when novelty characters were introduced, including actors John Slattery and Patton Oswalt playing themselves. As such, Jerry the Vampire should be a mechanism to provide novelty in season 6, and will provide additional newness in giving Schaal's The Guide character a close friend for the first time in the series.
What We Do in the Shadows TV-MAHorrorFantasyComedy
What We Do in the Shadows is a mockumentary-styled comedy series that follows the exploits of four vampires and a familiar living in Staten Island in the twenty-first century. Unrelated to the film of the same name, the show's vampires attempt to acclimate to the modern world but tend to find themselves lost often, leaving familiar-hoping-to-become-a-vampire Guillermo de la Cruz to pick up the pieces in the wake of their accidental destruction.
