Hamish Linklater voices the Dark Knight in the 10-part noir series
Batman fans are eating well this year, with The Batman spin-off series The Penguin and Joker sequel Folie à Deux both on the way. But for fans itching for more Dark Knight action, the beloved DC superhero stars in a brand-new animated series streaming now.
Billed as 'a reimagining of the Batman mythology', Batman: Caped Crusader follows the eponymous hero in the early days of his crime-fighting career on the trail of a sadistic killer. It sees the 'World's Greatest Detective' facing a stacked rogues gallery including classic villains Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Clayface and The Penguin.
The neo-noir series hails from The Batman director Matt Reeves and J.J. Abrams, with Batman: The Animated Series co-creator Bruce Timm serving as executive producer. Its official synopsis reads: "Welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear.

"Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human - the Batman. His one-man crusade for justice attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications."
Caped Crusader boasts a stellar ensemble voice cast led by Midnight Mass star Hamish Linklater as Bruce Wayne/Batman. He appears alongside Christina Ricci, Jamie Chung, Diedrich Bader, Mckenna Grace, Haley Joel Osment and Minnie Driver as a gender-swapped Penguin.
The 10-part series has earned positive reviews and currently boasts a perfect 100 percent Rotten Tomatoes score. The Guardian hailed the 'noirish reboot' as 'utterly refreshing', adding its 'chunky retro design and clean art style make it seem like a spiritual sequel' to The Animated Series.
Radio Times described Caped Crusader as 'aesthetically excellent', with Hamish Linklater's 'gruff and intimidating' performance feeling like a 'spiritual predecessor to legendary voice actor Kevin Conroy'. The series has already been renewed for a second season, but until then, here's how you can watch Batman: Caped Crusader for free.
