On Wednesday, Vogue announced that the theme of fashion's biggest night -- which is set to take place on May 5, 2025 -- will be "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style."
Co-chairs for the ball include actor Colman Domingo, race car driver Lewis Hamilton, rappers A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams and, of course, editor-in-chief of Vogue Anna Wintour.
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James will serve as an honorary chair.
According to Vogue, the upcoming Costume Institute show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art will "take the Black dandy as its subject, examining the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora."
Fans on social media were excited to hear about this year's theme and co-chairs.
"LEWIS HAMILTON AT FERRARI AS WELL AS HOSTING THE MET GALA NEXT YEAR. WE ABOUT TO EAT SO BADLY. PREPARE TO BE SICK OF ME!!!!!!!!" one person posted on X.
"Because the Met Gala is focused on Black culture, I need the invites to reflect that. I need the designers to respect black culture. This can be one of the most iconic themes of [sic] done correctly," added another.
"Finally a metgala [sic] that's actually worth seeing ... very out of the norms can't wait," wrote a third.
The 2024 Met Gala celebrated ephemerality and fragility in fashion with its theme of "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion." The accompanying exhibit showcased 50 historically significant pieces that were too delicate to be worn again.
The official dress code for this past May's event, co-chaired by Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth, was "The Garden of Time," inspired by the 1962 short story by J.G. Ballard.
The "Euphoria" star, 28, made her mark by stunning in not one, but two gowns on May 6.
Lopez, 55, dazzled in a Schiaparelli Haute Couture gown that took the house's team 800 hours to cover with over 2,500,000 silver foil bugles and beads.
Perhaps the most notable look from the night, however, was from singer Tyla, who made her Met Gala debut in a Balmain gown that was covered in real sand and perfectly molded to her body.
