A DreamWorks Animation release distributed by Universal Pictures, The Wild Robot opened in theaters on September 27. Nyong'o is the voice of Rozzum Unit 7134 -- who goes by Roz -- a robot who washes ashore on a remote island after a shipwreck.
On the island, Roz discovers an egg that hatches an orphaned gosling named Brightbill (Kit Connor) -- who imprints on the robot and treats her as his mother. After Roz and Brightbill instantly bond, they find that adaptating to their new surroundings a bit more chalenging since the island's wild animals aren't so welcoming -- starting with a sly fox named Fink (Pedro Pascal).
Based on the bestselling children's book by Peter Brown, The Wild Robot also stars the voices of Catherine O'Hara, Mark Hamill, Ving Rhames, Stephanie Hsu, Matt Berry and Bill Nighy.
According to When to Stream, The Wild Robot is expected to debut on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, October 18. According to The Numbers, The Wild Robot has earned nearly $70.3 million domestically and $36.7 million internationally for a worldwide box office tally of $107 million since its release date on September 27.
The box office tracker noted that The Wild Robot had a production budget of $78 million before prints and advertising costs.
