The residents of the Arconia should brace themselves for more criminal activity on the premises -- Only Murders in the Building has been renewed for a fifth season at Hulu. The Wrap reported the news just a week after the show's season 4 premiere; it couldn't even wait until the finale.
"We've been keeping that a secret for about a week and a half now. It's very exciting," showrunner John Hoffman told TheWrap on September 4. "We've been in the writers room for season 5 for two weeks now. So it's pretty fast and we're already in."
Season 5 will be comprised of 10 episodes, but further info such as additional cast and plot details remain under wraps. Historically, the finale episodes have ended on a cliffhanger that teases the central mystery (read: murder) that will be at the center of the following season. Perhaps the season 4 closer airing on October 8 will do the same.
The early(ish) renewal proves that comedy starring Steve Martin (Charles), Martin Short (Oliver), and Selena Gomez (Mabel) is perhaps too star-studded and too delightful to fail. It has earned 49 Emmy nominations so far, according to Deadline, with 21 nods for season 3 alone. Season 4, which premiered on August 27, is perhaps the series' most ambitious yet, as the leading trio head to Hollywood for a potential movie adaptation of their true-crime podcast. But negotiations come to a standstill when Charles's body double Sazz (Jane Lynch) goes missing. The mega-watt list of guest stars include Meryl Streep, Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria, Kumail Nanjiani, and more. If season 5 continues the trend, we can't wait to see what talent OMitB scoops up next.
