Hugh Grant is taking a stab at the horror genre for this first time in his upcoming film.
On Tuesday, June 25, A24 released the trailer for Heretic, which stars Sophie Thatcher (The Boogeyman, Yellowjackets) and Chloe East (The Fabelmans) as two young missionaries who are kidnapped by a man who holds them hostage in his home after they knock on his door.
Grant, 63, portrays the initially unassuming Mr. Reed in the new movie. After a day of struggling to engage with people on the streets, he invites the young missionaries into his home and offers them blueberry pie on behalf of his wife. One of the young women begins to suspect something is wrong when she realizes Mr. Reed has a blueberry pie-scented candle rather than an actual blueberry pie. Sure enough, Mr. Reed has locked the pair inside his home.
After the two confront Mr. Reed, he tells the young women that he will not keep them hostage and will allow them to leave -- but attempting to do so will make them challenge their religious faith as they know it. The movie's trailer ends with one woman ascending from a staircase into what appears to be a labyrinth of sorts out of his home.
