The Twisters star made an appearance on The Today Show recently and shared a delightful secret with his fans. Apparently, Glen Powell's parents have stealthily popped up in every one of his movies, from Spy Kids 3 to his latest blockbuster, Twisters. The charismatic actor, who is currently making waves for his performance alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones, opened up about the family tradition and how it's made the bond between Powell and his parents stronger.
During the interview, Powell was all smiles as he spilled the beans about his parents' cameo in Twisters. Meanwhile, a clip played on and showed the couple in cowboy hats sitting right behind Powell and Edgar-Jones' characters in the movie.
"There's a great sequence midway through a rodeo sequence in the movie and [my parents are] right behind Daisy Edgar-Jones and I... You'll be able to see them here in a second... Yeah, they're right behind us there.... Look at that."

A follow-up to the 1996 original film Twister, Twisters is a sequel set years after the original, said to be fast-tracked by Steven Spielberg and Mark L. Smith, with Frank Marshal as producer. Little details exist about the film, but Helen Hunt is expected to reprise her role as Jo, with the film likely to pay homage to the late Bill Paxton.

It is quite endearing how supportive Powell's parents have been of his career by taking part in his movies, in whatever capacity, over the years. Powell's mother, Cyndy Powell, spoke exclusively to The Hollywood Reporter about cheering their son from the sidelines. "I know we're probably in his way sometimes, but you wouldn't know it because he makes everyone feel loved and taken care of."
The Powells Had a Blast on the Sets of Anyone But You Close
It is clear from Glen Powell's comments that his parents have relished the opportunity to visit him on set for nearly two decades now. As he mentioned, "They've made it in since Spy Kids 3... Yeah, literally since Spy Kids 3. I think they've been in every single one." But it was 2023's romantic comedy Anyone But You that brought a playful energy to this tradition. Glen's parents were easier to spot; in the scene where Powell and his co-star Sydney Sweeney are flying to Australia, they are airline passengers.

Recalling a hilarious moment from the shoot, Glen revealed the truth about his father's method performance and called him the "Daniel Day-Lewis of sleep acting." He told Entertainment Weekly,
"The funniest part about that scene in general is that my dad's the real Method actor. He's stone-cold asleep... I'm sitting there as Sydney is trying to do gymnastics over my face and quite often slipping and falling onto me, and I'm having to not break. Whereas my dad, he's the Daniel Day-Lewis of sleep acting. There was not a false beat in that performance."
At only 35 years old, Glen Powell has already touched the sky as a leading man in major studio films. His latest disaster thriller, Twisters, where he plays a reckless social-media superstar named Tyler Owens, has swept the worldwide box office with its pulse-pounding tornado sequences and emotional character dynamics. If the movie becomes the summer blockbuster some expect, it will cement Powell as a franchise star.
Twisters is currently playing in theaters worldwide.
