Marvel star Chris Hemsworth has revealed the status of Thor 5 while appearing at San Diego Comic-Con. Speaking with Comicbook.com, the actor sounded excited about once again reprising the role of the Asgardian Avenger, a character he has been playing throughout the MCU since 2011, but is currently waiting for the "phone call."
"Oh! Hey, mate, I have loved every second working in the Marvel Universe and if there's more to come then I'm excited about it. Nothing official yet. I'm sort of waiting for the phone call and, and waiting for the news to see, let's see what happens. But, you know, I love it."
He echoed these sentiments when discussing the potential for Thor 5 with ExtraTV at SDCC (does the interviewer call it "Marvel cr*p" to Hemsworth's face!?), asserting that he has "loved every second" of his time in the MCU.
"I have loved every second of the Marvel experience, and I'm always down to do more, but we're all sort of waiting to hear what's happening."
While we, alongside Hemsworth, await further updates on Thor 5, what can we ascertain about the potential direction of the Marvel sequel? Well, one thing we can be almost certain of is that it will leave some of the comedy behind. Hemsworth recently revealed his disappointment over Thor: Love and Thunder, blaming himself for getting "caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself. I didn't stick the landing."
Will Thor 5 Take the Character in a Darker Direction? Close
Reflecting on his approach to the character, Hemsworth has said he would like to see a change in direction, explaining to the Happy Sad Confused team that Thor 5 will need to evolve just to keep both himself and audiences "invested."
"I mean you look at Thor 1 and 2 they were quite similar. Ragnarok and Love & Thunder: similar. I think it's just about re-inventing it. And I've had such a unique opportunity even with [Avengers] Infinity War and Endgame to do very drastic things with the character; I enjoy that, I like keeping people on their toes, it keeps me on my toes, keeps me invested. And I've said this before: when it becomes too familiar, I think there's a risk of getting lazy I think, like 'Ah, I know what I'm doing,' you know? So I don't know - again, I don't even know if I'm invited back. But if I was, I think it'd have to be a drastically different version - tone, everything. Just for my own sanity [laughs]."
