These guys have run a good campaign -- but will any be revealed as the titleholder on Nov. 12?
A lot goes into choosing PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive every year, and we take all the components of a Sexiest Man Alive selection very seriously. Whether that's tons of reader feedback, a particularly big year had by a certain sexy celebrity, or just whether the guy looks great in a T-shirt, there's much to consider.
Knowing that, these celebrities have put their hats into the ring, declaring themselves eligible and ready to pose at a moment's notice. Check out the boldest, best campaigners for the 2024 Sexiest Man Alive title.
Will Ferrell got his campaign going early, at the Despicable Me 4 premiere in April, declaring he was "planting the seeds" to end up on the cover "because you guys never have comedians."
"Get it going internally, all right? Sexiest Man," he demanded, before pointing out that his red carpet tracksuit was chosen for its "sexy villain" qualities.
He finished his interview by saying one of his Minion superpowers would be to "be People Magazine's Sexiest Man of the Year. Come on. Vote for comedians!"
On the same press tour, Ferrell was asked by Extra about his campaign, and was endorsed by costars Kristen Wiig and Steve Carell -- "Two powerful endorsements," he pointed out.
When the host asked Carell if he was also interested in the title, he demurred, until Wiig suggested that they go for it together.
"That's our best hope, because if each of us are like a 6 or 7, put 'em together, we're a 12, 14," he joked.
On the heels of Paul Rudd's 2021 win, Kevin Hart declared that Rudd's win was "bulls---" and said that 2022 would be his year -- and if not that year, another one going forward.
"I start my campaign at the beginning of every year, but I don't think they see the campaign," he told Page Six. "There's no reason why I shouldn't have it. It's all about the sexy ... I will get PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive. You bet your ass on that."
Speaking jokingly to a PEOPLE reporter at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival this year, David Duchovny said, "I always wanted to be Sexiest Man Alive. I think I made top 50 once, but I never [got the top honor] ... so f--- you guys!"
"I'm a little bit upset I wasn't nominated," the actor (and Britney Spears ex) jokingly told PEOPLE at a September event after sharing that he worked out to be sure he looked "great" for PEOPLE, asking, "Do you know who I could talk to?"
"Hey, why not take a guy who's in his 70s and make him the sexiest man again?" Harry Hamlin suggested at our 50th anniversary celebration in May, adding that he "really feels old" to think that 37 years have passed since he got the honor in 1987.
He also has some powerful endorsements on his side: "I think my daughter already pitched it to [PEOPLE Editor-in-Chief] Wendy [Naugle], actually [at the White House Correspondents' Dinner]," adds Hamlin, who shares daughters Delilah Gray Hamlin, 25, and Amelia Gray Hamlin, 22, with wife Lisa Rinna. "We were sitting with [Naugle], and my daughter said, 'Why don't you make him sexiest man again?' "
No one was more delighted by Dwayne Johnson's 2016 win -- or more convinced he should be the reigning champion for eternity -- than Johnson himself.
"I've been saying it since birth: I am, in fact, the sexiest man alive," he joked to PEOPLE earlier this year. "I'm actually the only one who has it in perpetuity."
He added, "My conversations with my fellow SMAs are always the same, I [say] congratulations, welcome to the club, but just so you know -- you guys have it for a year, but I have it for life."
Technically, Glen Powell's dog (and Twisters costar) Brisket didn't nominate himself, but we're counting this one since he enlisted an A-list star to do it on his behalf. When asked who got her vote for Sexiest Man Alive this year, Daisy Edgar-Jones immediately answered with a smile: "Brisket, Glen Powell's dog. I know he's not technically human, but he's the sexiest thing I've ever seen. He's gorgeous!"
