Pretty Little Liars Just Repeated The Most Frustrating Part Of Its "A" Mystery, 10 Years Later
Spoiler alert: The following article contains spoilers from the Pretty Little Liars: Summer School finale.
Summary
Archie somehow survived the prison riot and killed Dr. Sullivan, and, if Max renews Pretty Little Liars , season 3 must address how he did it (and if he had an accomplice). Tabby seemingly fatally stabbed Wes, but Dr. Sullivan later mentioned he had been arrested, leaving his fate unclear. A few relationship statues need clarification after Pretty Little Liars: Summer School .
Pretty Little Liars: Summer School has come to an end, and while many questions that popped up over the course of the season were answered in the finale, the last episode didn't address everything (and also created new mysteries). The ending of Pretty Little Liars: Summer School revealed Bloody Rose's identity as Mrs. Langsberry. But the real shock was that she wasn't the mastermind behind season 2's murders and the taunting of the Liars. Instead, Wes (Tabby and Christian's boss at the Orpheum) utilized Mrs. Langsberry/Bloody Rose and Spooky Spaghetti to make the ultimate horror movie.
Wes thought he couldn't break into the film business because he was a white man, and he had been resentful of Tabby when she experienced success. Consequently, Wes wanted to make the perfect horror movie by actually murdering people, while Mrs. Langsberry wanted revenge for her son's death and hated Tabby and Imogen because they told the truth about Chip. Wes and Mrs. Langsberry's interests aligned, resulting in Bloody Rose and "The Reckoning." Tabby got the last laugh, though, when she became the final girl of Pretty Little Liars: Summer School. Nevertheless, several questions still remain after the finale.
10 How Did Archie Survive & Escape Prison?
The Pretty Little Liars: Summer School Finale Ended With Archie Killing Dr. Sullivan
Close
Although Pretty Little Liars: Summer School's ending wrapped up the Bloody Rose storyline, the writers left viewers hanging by bringing Archie Waters, aka "A," back. The news reported that Archie died during a prison riot earlier in the episode. However, that was ultimately a misdirection. The audience and Dr. Sullivan later learned that Archie had somehow survived and escaped prison, and his reign of terror was far from over. Archie paid a visit to Dr. Sullivan in her office and stabbed her to death while she begged him to tell her the truth about her son's death.
As of the writing of this article, Max has yet to renew Pretty Little Liars for a third season (but a renewal is quite likely).
If (and when) Pretty Little Liars returns with season 3, the upcoming episodes must explain how Archie is alive and out of prison. But given how Summer School ended, fans don't have to worry about getting answers. As Dr. Sullivan explained, the bogeyman never dies. Imogen, Tabby, Faran, Mouse, and Noa will seemingly never be able to escape "A's" torment as he will certainly target them next (maybe after dealing with those who used his mother's likeness to make a horror movie). But how Archie faked his death and slipped through the prison's walls will remain a mystery until season 3.

9 Is Wes Alive?
Tabby Stabbed Wes With A Pitchfork
After Tabby took down three Spooky Spaghetti goons in the woods, Wes tracked her down to Bloody Rose's cabin (a set he built) in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 8. Tabby, who had seen countless horror movies, outsmarted Wes and stabbed him with a pitchfork, pinning him to the wall. One would think that a pitchfork through the chest would kill Wes. However, when Imogen approached his seemingly lifeless body, Wes pulled a Scream and suddenly came back to life screaming at Bailee Madison's character. Imogen knocked Wes out, but the episode was unclear about his fate.
Perhaps Wes made a miraculous recovery and is now sitting behind bars with Bloody Rose, but, hopefully, a potential season 3 will blatantly confirm his dead or alive status.
It seemed as if Wes would die from his injuries during the Pretty Little Liars: Summer School finale. However, during the Liars' last therapy session with Dr. Sullivan, the therapist mentioned that Wes and Mrs. Langsberry had been arrested. Perhaps Wes made a miraculous recovery and is now sitting behind bars with Bloody Rose, but, hopefully, a potential season 3 will blatantly confirm his dead or alive status.
8 Will Imogen & Johnny Get Back Together?
Johnny Broke Up With Imogen During The Finale
Season 2 of the Max slasher teen drama featured several romantic developments, including Imogen meeting and dating Johnny, a new Pretty Little Liars: Summer character. Imogen got a summer job at the local ice cream shop where Johnny had already been working, and the chemistry between the two was evident from their first meeting. After a couple of hiccups (like Imogen assuming that Johnny was a player), Imogen and Johnny started dating, and she was able to open up to him about all her past traumas. They seemed like the perfect couple until Imogen suspected him of working with Bloody Rose.
Imogen found dead bodies in the freezer (which Wes planted there) during the season 2 finale, and she assumed her boyfriend was guilty. So, Imogen hit Johnny in the head with a wrench and locked him in the freezer. Later, she learned that Johnny was innocent, but the damage had already been done. Although Johnny broke up with Imogen, all hope isn't lost. Imogen weighed the idea of Johnny forgiving her, while Pretty Little Liars: Summer School showed Johnny longingly looking at Imogen while flirting with another girl. It likely won't be long until Imogen and Johnny get back together.
7 Why Didn't Bloody Rose Kill Kelly?
Mrs. Langsberry Didn't Stab Kelly In Pretty Little Liars: Summer School Episode 7
Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 7 ended with Bloody Rose attacking Kelly at the pool, and Faran arrived to see Kelly floating face down in the water. At the beginning of the next hour, Faran rescued Kelly and gave her CPR. Bloody Rose seemingly only knocked Kelly out and pushed her into the water instead of stabbing her like she did with her other victims, which was strange, to say the least.
Kelly's survival might have indicated that she was working with Bloody Rose in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School. However, as those who watched the finale know, that wasn't the case. Perhaps the antagonist wanted to test Faran again to see if she would save her friend or go after Bloody Rose. If that is the truth, it's peculiar that Mrs. Langsberry and Wes would focus on Faran again when they could have just moved on to Tabby. The attack on Kelly seemed pointless, even if it was meant to be a misdirection or another test.
6 What Will Happen To The Church?
Pastor Malachi Is Dead & Spooky Spaghetti Has Been Shut Down
Our Mother of Holy Grace seemed tied to Pretty Little Liars: Summer School's central mystery and viewers learned (part of) the truth during the finale. Wes recruited his cast and crew through Spooky Spaghetti, which ultimately appealed to many of Pastor Malachi's followers at the church. So, those on the horror website also belonged to the strange church. But Kelly, Mrs. Beasley, and Henry weren't involved. Even though they were innocent, Our Mother of Holy Grace was still a cult, and it's unclear what's next for the churchgoers.
Pretty Little Liars: Summer School didn't answer all the questions concerning Our Mother of Holy Grace, and it would be wrong if the cult is just swept under the rug after season 2.
Pastor Malachi is dead, while Mrs. Beasley, who appeared to be as involved with the cult as Pastor Malachi, is alive. Mrs. Beasley still holds a lot of contempt towards Imogen, Tabby, Faran, Mouse, and Noa for her daughter's death, which likely didn't go away after the finale. Kelly's mother might try to continue running the cult in (a potential) season 3, and she should. Pretty Little Liars: Summer School didn't answer all the questions concerning Our Mother of Holy Grace, and it would be wrong if the cult is just swept under the rug after season 2.
Wait, Are Pretty Little Liars: Summer School & Riverdale In The Same Universe?
One Pretty Little Liars: Summer School character made an offhand comment in episode 6 that seemingly alluded to someone in the CW series Riverdale.
5 Are Faran & Greg Officially Together?
Faran & Greg Hooked Up In Episode 7
Greg did not appear in the finale at all. However, after he broke up with Kelly in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 6, Greg and (newly single) Faran finally addressed the sexual tension between them in episode 7. They hooked up and went on a date, but beyond that, Faran and Greg's official relationship status is unknown after the Pretty Little Liars: Summer School finale.

Given that most of Greg's storyline in season 2 was spent building up towards him dating Faran, it would make sense if they labeled themselves as boyfriend and girlfriend in Max's Pretty Little Liars season 3. Perhaps not everyone will be on board with their relationship -- the audience has yet to see Kelly's reaction to Faran dating her ex-boyfriend. But, hopefully, Faran will be happier with Greg than she was with Henry, especially if Greg is committed to changing his ways.
4 What Will Tabby's Movie Be About?
The End-Credits Seemingly Teased Tabby's New (Original) Film
Once she learned that a big-time director would be making a movie about the Millwood massacre, Tabby wanted to reclaim her story and produce her own film about her and her friends' trauma. However, following the ordeal with Bloody Rose and Wes, Tabby decided to leave reality behind and make an original movie. She expressed to Imogen that the script would contain multiple villains, and, coincidentally, Pretty Little Liars: Summer School ended with flashes of five girls in creepy masks parading down the high school's hallways while wielding weapons.
Pretty Little Liars: Summer School appeared to mirror Scream 2's story, so, season 3 might be inspired by Scream 3 with the production of Tabby's movie (and the one about the Millwood massacre).
The Max slasher teen drama mystery series implied that the girls, who resembled Imogen, Tabby, Faran, Mouse, and Noa, were the subjects of Tabby's film. Or, it's possible that the end-credits scenes were teasing season 3's villain. Whatever the case, not much is known about Tabby's upcoming movie, but it will undoubtedly be a main plotline in Pretty Little Liars season 3 (if Max renews the show).
3 Could Jen, Christian, & Johnny Still Be Evil?
Pretty Little Liars: Summer School's New Love Interests Were Suspects All Season
The Pretty Little Liars: Summer School finale evidently absolved Jen, Christian, and Johnny of guilt. However, that doesn't mean they can't still be evil (especially Jen). Johnny is the least likely to have nefarious intentions based on vibes and the fact that he broke up with Imogen. Christian is more likely to be a future villain, given his love of horror and making masks (plus, he's from New York just like Wes, so, Christian could've been secretly working with him). But, for now, it might be safe to say that Christian is innocent.

Meanwhile, it would be more shocking if Jen turns out to be good, to be honest, given her timely rescue of Noa from Bloody Rose in Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 5. Jen claimed she just so happened to be driving by at the same time that Noa stumbled into the road, which is quite suspicious as it would be too big of a coincidence. Her actions throughout season 2 were also shady, and if Jen is in season 3, viewers should probably remain wary of her.
2 Will Archie Be Season 3's Main Villain (If Pretty Little Liars Gets Renewed)?
Pretty Little Liars: Summer School Ended With "A's" Return
Archie's return during Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode 8 implies he will be a central villain in season 3. Or perhaps "A" will only be a problem during the first episode, similar to the premiere of Pretty Little Liars: Summer School. It would be completely repetitive, though, if Archie only killed a handful of people in the season 3 premiere before the police caught and arrested him. It would make much more sense if "A" was either the main antagonist again or a presence lingering in the background, waiting to strike, while another villain tormented the Liars.
Reports claim that Pretty Little Liars: Scene Stealer was listed as a trademark on Warner Bros. Discovery's database, leading some to believe that Scene Stealer could be season 3's subtitle (if Max renews the show).
After Dr. Sullivan's murder, Archie will likely want to go after Imogen, Tabby, Faran, Mouse, and Noa. The only question is if he will be patient and methodical about his attacks, or if Archie will be impulsive and immediately confront the girls. Whatever the case, hopefully, if Max renews the Pretty Little Liars horror spinoff, "A" won't be the only villain.
Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, the PLL spinoff, just repeated one of the franchise's most frustrating storylines from the "A" mystery.
1 Will Any Original Pretty Little Liars Cast Members Appear In Season 3?
Season 2's Ending Set Up Pretty Little Liars Cameos
Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin and Pretty Little Liars: Summer School contained Easter eggs concerning the original Freeform series. However, aside from Dr. Sullivan, none of the main Pretty Little Liars cast members have appeared. Perhaps that can change in season 3, especially since season 2's ending perfectly sets up Aria, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily's returns. There is sure to be a funeral for Dr. Sullivan after Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, and the original Liars could easily cross paths with the new Liars at the vigil, even if it's just for a moment.
